Wind
“Wind” is an ongoing photographic study of wind turbines and their individual mark on the landscape they inhabit, each having a social history in the making of it’s own.
For Paul the turbines are a thing of beauty, each harnessing the natural gift that nature keeps on giving.
In part the work is influenced by the Dusseldorf School of Photography and the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher who documented disappearing German industrial architecture. They were fascinated by the similar shapes in which certain buildings were designed and noticed that the various edifices; of cooling towers, gas tanks and coal bunkers, many with distinctive formal qualities.
In contrast the turbines have sleeker lines but share a much greater formality of design given their intended use.
